There seems to be two different type of motorcyclists (Bikers) in this world. The “Badass Tough Guy” and the “I Just Wanna Ride, Guy”. Maybe it’s a spectrum, I don’t know.
Let’s take a case like someone telling you what you can and can’t do or even wear while riding your motorcycle.
Lets, for a moment forget, we are in the United States of America. Lets pretend we don’t have a First Amendment.
In our [motorcycle] community there is a code of conduct that we follow. Rules that have been passed down over years since our brave soldiers returned from World War 2.
How these rules get enforced and what this says about our community is the topic of this article.
Where do you land on this topic?
Are you the “Badass Tough Guy” or “I Just Wanna Ride, Guy”? Are you the hardcore biker that believes only the strong survive this lifestyle and everyone else is a poser and shouldn’t even bother getting on twos? Are you the guy that believes territories must be defended at all costs. That violators of protocol should be taught through painful means so that the lesson is clear and unforgettable. Are you so Badass that you kill or die to protect the honor of your colors, risking your freedom, and your family’s livelihood and yes, your life (DEATH) all in the name of your club? Do you believe the community needs to weed out the weak through intimidation, violence and threat of violence? If a club can’t defend itself, it doesn’t deserve to exist and if it’s too small to defend itself, it should just patch over? Does respect only go in one direction, towards you?
Would you:
Strongly Agree | Mostly Agree | Kinda Agree | Sorta Agree | Agree | Disagree |
Or are you the “I Just Wanna Ride, Guy”. The guy that isn’t looking for trouble, or intending to disrespect anyone. The guy that just wants to ride. Maybe you’re the guy that wants to ride with his friend, see the country, explore the roads. Maybe you’re in a club, your club just wants to ride. Your club isn’t interested in anyone else’s business, and just leaves everyone else alone and expects to be left alone. Maybe you’re the type of person that tries to give the MC’s respect, because you believe everyone deserves respect both within the community and outside of it. Maybe you and your club understand not everyone knows the ways of our community and tries to teach the uninformed things like taking off your gloves before shaking hands, taking off your sunglasses to look a man in the eyes and that these simple things can carry over into the real world of your everyday life.
Would you:
Strongly Agree | Mostly Agree | Kinda Agree | Sorta Agree | Agree | Disagree |
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter where you land on this topic, the fact remains that both types exist. And this community is DANGEROUS, period.
I’m not judging, I understand some of the reasons behind some of these rules. Obviously not all of them. But some, including why, we in this community, relinquish our God given, Constitutional Rights, ironically, to spite all those brave souls who started this community over 80 years ago and fought for this country and those exact same God given Rights.
What are we trying to tell the world? What are we saying to future riders? DON’T, unless you like fighting? Is that the message we want to send? Is there a place in this community for clubs that want to travel unimpeded and unmolested? Where freedom rings and respect flows both ways? Or does the community do without the smaller club who wish to pursue their happiness.
